Find web information for your app
Give your agent current sources to work with, or bring search results and keyword data into your SEO tools. Choose a search API based on the information you need back.
Find sources, search results, or SEO data
If your agent needs information to answer a question, look for a search API that includes page content alongside its results. Your model can then read the material without fetching each link separately.
For a tool that tracks what appears in search, use a search-results API, often called a SERP API. It returns structured results such as organic listings, ads, and snippets. Available fields depend on the search engine and endpoint.
For keyword planning and reporting, choose an SEO data API. Search volume, advertising competition, and backlink data answer different questions from a results page. The keyword guide below shows how to request these metrics and interpret them.
Some models can also run web searches while answering a prompt. A separate search API gives your app more control over the queries and results it uses.

Before you start
What is the difference between a search API and a SERP API?
Search APIs help you find relevant sources, and some include page content or a generated answer. SERP APIs return the results a search engine shows for a query. Use the latter when you need positions, snippets, or other details for search reporting.
How do I compare search costs?
Compare the full workflow. An API that returns page content may save a separate fetch, while one that returns links may be enough for your task. Check provider prices below and test the queries your app will actually run.
Can I get keyword volume and competition?
Yes. DataForSEO’s Google Ads search-volume endpoint returns search volume, advertising competition, and cost-per-click. Advertising competition is different from organic ranking difficulty. The keyword research guide explains the fields.
